Kaneda replica bike riding across Japan for charity
This will peak the interest of fans of the anime film and manga series Akira, a cult piece of science-fiction set in a dystopian Tokyo and featuring biker gangs (watch a bike scene here) and psychokinetic powers. A Japanese fan has built his own replica of the bike ridden by the protagonist Shotaro Kaneda and is currently riding across Japan to raise money for charity.
The bike was built by Masashi Teshima from Fukuoka, Japan and took him seven years and ¥10 million (£77,000) to make it. Whilst there have been other replicas of Kaneda's bike, this one is the only one to be officially recognised by Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo.
The final stop of the bike will be Tokyo where it will be displayed in an exhibition for Otomo. You can see some of Teshima's progress and watch the bike in action on his YouTube channel.
I'm not sure how well the bike handles, but I sure as hell want one along with the red jacket.
