Yorick wroteNow that both your countries have banned smoking in public places, had it made much difference ?Are pubs, cleaner ? Quieter ? Better ?Any other major changes ?And was there any initial problems ? Eg folk in pubs still smoking ?And do you think the ban is working and a good thing ?Yes, yes and yesnopesmokers now blocking all the doorways yes and yesviews of a non-smoker living in scotland when ban was introduced
The ban has been really popular in Scotland - most smokers also agree its been a good thing. One of the few things the Scottish Excutive has got bang on right. Hardly anybody has even tried to break the rule since it came in.I spend a fair bit of time in London and to be honest it seems funny seeing people smoking in bars etc now.
Its great fun in the Welsh pubs atm, landlord in one is a heavy smoker and was making more noise than anyone else about not being able to light-up Gently explained that his profits will only suffer if he wants them to and most of the pubs in Scotland are now doing better than before the ban

My local has been equally as busy after the ban as before it (in fact, possibly busier now). I haven't seen anyone try to light up indoors since the new law came in. Have to agree with anteater about the ScotExec getting this one right, I was sceptical before hand, luckily I was proved wrong. Had a weekend in Carlisle not so long ago, was VERY strange to go into a pub full of smoke! I can't see Scottish pubs ever reversing the ruling. Al.
