This is not a wind-up I seriously need to know if anyone on VD owns / has ever owned one of the modern (!!!) Royal Enfield Bullets. If so....gimme it straight please.....any good for just pottering around on?Also, any south Devon members who could recommend the decent bike shops / dealers around the Torbay / Exeter areas (for all makes, not just RE's!). Are Torre Motorcycles of Torquay reasonable, for instance?I thank you

Are Torre Motorcycles of Torquay reasonable, for instance?I thank you Hi! and welcome to the world of the classic motorcycle. Great bikes. I'm now running a 2004 500 classic and it's a really super bike. Forget all the rumours you may hear and just remember a few things like:-You will have a long courtship, called "Running-in",starting at 30mph maxYou will be riding a 1950's bike that thrives on short interval regular services. You can service it with a big hammer and a screwdriver (The Indians do!).Happiest at 50/55 and with varied engine load NOT motorway thrashes.Indian paint and chrome is not quite up to our standards - but its not that bad either.OK so what's so special.....well, unlike most classic you have a 100% spares service and a thriving customising business - anything from full trials kit to cafe racer. I live in the real wilds and can get anyting within 48 hours from Hitchcocks Motorcycles (See web site and especially see notice board for mechanical chat and advice).Don't know about Torbay area - I did not use Watsonian, the "official" importers but instead went to Jon at SOS Motorcycles, who provided me with a bike to my specs for around £1K less than full asking price.................and he delivered.Be aware that as from nect year the "Clasic" 350 and 500 will no longer be available, due to EEC regs about emissions etc. Already new models on market have cat', lean burn engine, electric start and (whisper it!) gears and brakes on the Japanese side. In fact you can throw an awful lot away on the present "Classic" to return it to genuine 1950's standards and still not fall foul of the MOT. Do PM me with an e-mail address and I'll send you my collection of useful sites. We are a very, very welcoming and friendly bunch. TTFN and REgards :burnout:
