I prefer pvc, leather can get sweaty and textile fabric chaffs

Lot depends on the fabric me I have never tried Gortex so don't know. (never rich enough to afford it). My suit for the hols was Cordura and each time I go away I buy a can of tent Fabsil from miilets for around a fiver and coat the gear, spray on and quick drying then generally the water beads on the outside of the cloth and doesn't soak in so the material stays dry. Will admit for the really wet day we had I put on a cheapo pair of over trousers as I hate sitting in the wet. Sitting tend to force the water throgh the material, but short showers ok.As for looks well when you are old and grumpy like me you give up caring I'm far past any hope of ever looking cool. Jeans and a bomber jacket normally my riding gear but I will admit you lot made me feel extremely guilty with all your protective equipment so never brave enough to wear them even though I packed the bomber jacket.Riding on my own I'm way past the point of caring and just wear what I feel relaxed and comfortable in normally.
Good thread, especially as I did a thread on this before Norway wondering what to take and now I have done it I have the pros and cons on it.I went with full gore tex in the end. Not used my gore tex trousers that much before, but decided the all round benefit of lightweight and waterproof would be good. I ride in a gore tex jacket with leather trousers all the time anyway (but considering blowing the dust of my leather jacket at some point). When considering wearing the leathers for the tour and stopping to put waterproofs on, it seemed like a feasible idea. However, when riding in a big group and especialy when the leader is wearing gore tex when the skies open, you are wet well before being able to stop or signal to the rest of the group that you wanna stop. On the occasions that it rained, I did get a bit soggy, but stayed dry on the inside. Didn't like the "am I wet or not" soggy bottom feeling (as your bottom does not dry out well when the rest does). Also though, with summer leather, you often have fabric panels that soak very quickly.I am happy wearing either, but overall, for touring I found the goretex very practical when we suddenly got showered. Admittedly not as good looking as a tailored sexy piece of leather though
