My WR had no cush drive. The KTM520 has cush drive on the SM wheels (all 3 sets )When I bought the KTM I noticed how smooth it was on the road. Could be the cush drive...could be the 6th gear cos it does not rev as much in top.....dunno, but if you want to try a wheel with a cush drive, just ask
I have a converted Husky TE610 no cush drive used to have an ollder converted KTM - no cush drive. You car really feel the connection between the engine & rear wheel. Much more direct and unsanitised
Just wanted to know if the guys with converted crossers or enduro bikes have cush drives or not Those without them, have you had any problems at all Thanx in advance G max
I ran a Husky 610SMS which has a cush drive as standard but the wheels were rough so I sold them and bought a set of Talons with no cush drive. Within 3 months of hard ( sort of) riding the clutch basket disintergrated I think that bikes desigined to run them should do... all the KTM's and even Bergs seem to..HTH.
my WR has no cush drive on either the off-road wheels or the Talon/Morad road wheelsi actually prefer it - its very direct and makes wheelies interesting - easier to lift the front but harder to keep it their due to that direct drive that means each change of throttle really equates to a change in attitude of the bikefeels much more 'lively' and fun. I think, of the converted 400s, only the KTms have a cush at all?
I would say the biggest benefit from a cush drive when racing would be that it takes some of the shock when changing down - without the cush drive, you'll get increased "chatter" of the gears as the chain transmits the shock directly from the rear wheel to the gearbox ? chatter can lead to premature gear and clutch basket wear ...I know a DRZ that is fitted with one Spokey
Both my sets of 17" wheels have no cush drives. (Obviously my off road wheels dont have one either) Only reason i ask is every time i ride to my local KTM dealer and on Friday this week in particular when it was VERY VERY busy every one looks at my bike and then says in a very knowing type of voice " No cush Drive Then" also happening to have a smugg look on thier chops too They must be puffs cos iv'e had no problems yet Saying that ive probabley just put the kiss of death on it now
