I take Wullie's point about the 5 valver Yam engine. As regards the four valve Gilera engines though I think the 500cc Saturno's PHM40 single carb works better, albeit having to avoid heavy throttle openings at low engine speeds. When I looked at the 550cc Nord-West engine the right hand inlet tract was heavily lacquered with a varnish of fuel deposits. The LHS was clean. The bike was running well & the bloke rode it pretty hard. Whether there was something up with the carb on the right I don't know. I suspect it was probably working as designed.I have had a single carb manifold made up so I can use the PHM40 on the NordWest engine which has been sat on my bench waiting for years! Nige
