Overtaking

I'm a newbie to biking, 5yrs experience driving. Car has 100 bhp, bike has 72, but bike accelerates a lot quicker as you guys ngals know. I've done a few overtakes in the car, not very experienced at it. I've read a few bike magizines stating

Overtaking ...the rules ? Simple one really...... can you overtake on a hatch and then come back in over a double white line? Nope! You arent allowed to cross the double whites so you need to complete any manoeuvre before you get to them
