First Ride: 2002 Kawasaki ZZ-R1200
By Alex Hearn on 29/03/2008 18:59:37
I think it's fair to say the old ZZ-R1100 was more than a bit past its sell by date. I last rode one about three years ago, on a flat out European speed mission in the company of a Suzuki Hayabusa and Honda Blackbird.
Compared to both - especially the Busa - it felt gutless in the midrange, and was only just a match for the Blackbird up top. And when I say up top, I mean wire tight in sixth gear - irrelevant in the UK but very relevant when you're racing yer mates abroad (er, yeah...). Roll on...

By mark forsyth on 22/06/2010 15:09:06
Earth, sky, earth, sky...
Here at Visordown Towers, we've been leafing through loads of issues of the magazine for a couple of days. The reason? Visordown.com is ten years old and our next issue will celebrate this monumentous occassion. I stumbled accross this piece I wrote a while back and thought I'd s...

Motorcycle Radar: 1990
By Roland Brown on 24/11/2010 15:58:06
1990 was a mixed year for motorcycling. Remember the Laverda Navarro?
1990Motorcyclists didn’t know whether to laugh or cry as the Nineties began. Bikes were getting ever faster and more powerful, but the threat of a 100BHP limit hung in the air. There was some great new machinery for those who could afford it, but the dodgy UK economy left many pe...

Top 10 Future Classics
By Mark Forsyth on 25/10/2010 11:31:11
Don't buy an established classic. Use your noddle. Buy a future classic instead...
If you hanker for a bike that won't depreciate and you can fix-up or fettle yourself then you're best looking at old bikes that haven't yet acquired the 'classic' title. You're probably also looking at a bike that'll cost under two grand, has carbs (none of this expensive and comp...

Splitting Heirs: Kawasaki ZZ-R1200 v ZZR1400
By Jon Bentman on 28/03/2008 18:23:49
As Splitting Heirs contests go, this would seem the most one-sided fight yet. Only it's not. Thought the ZZR1400 to be the ultimate speed king? Well, maybe you've never ridden a 2002 ZZR1200 then...
The latest ZZR1400 has rapidly achieved iconic status. Back in 1990 the ZZR1100 was able to stand proud as the fastest production motorcycle ever, with its genuine 168mph making it the quickest by a good margin. The ultimate muscle statement

Used Review: Kawasaki ZRX11 & 1200
By Bertie Simmonds on 09/04/2008 21:55:47
The menacingly handsome, retro-cool and capable ZRX series has been with us for a decade now, so how does it fare as a used buy? Bertie Simmonds finds out.
Synonymous with the Kawasaki muscle bikes of old and Eddie Lawson's 1980/'81 AMA title-winning inline fours, the ZRX series is actually a little more than that. The bike first came into being in 1997 in 1100cc form, sporting a retro square headlight, twin shocks, braced swingarm a...

To The Crusher - Yamaha GTS1000A
By on 13/08/2008 12:17:55
The GTS1000A was supposed to be an early '90s sports-touring flagship for Yamaha.
The GTS1000A was supposed to be an early '90s sports-touring flagship for Yamaha, but it turned into an embarrassing farce.Ironically, the best part of a decade later we see the goodly FJR1300 doing a much better job for half the price and with half the technology. In 1992 the GTS...

Used Test: Kawasaki ZZ-R600
By Bertie Simmonds on 09/04/2008 23:13:49
Like Barbara Windsor, it hasn't been considered sexy for years. So what's kept the ZZ-R600 on Kawasaki's books all this time? It's the fastest, squashiest, flying sofa has ever seen, that's why...
Back in the mists of time (1990 to be precise), Kawasaki launched two rocket ships. Strange with hindsight, but at the time of their birth, both the ZZ-R1100 and ZZ-R600 were cutting edge sports tackle and fast as hell. Then FireBlades and R6s came along and the Kawasakis lost th...
