Used Test: Aprilia RSV-R
By Bertie Simmonds on 10/04/2008 19:28:42
The original Ducati spoiler is more practical and arguably more exotic too. Plus the spec'd up 'R' version can be had on the used market for as little as £3,000. But beware, she has a few issues up her skirt.
on in 1999, but they got it right first time. The RSV-R appeared a year later. It was capable of giving anything a run for its money on a race track but it's comfy on the road and doesn't have any major reliability issues either. The 1,000cc RSV-R is the mid

Used Review: Yamaha Fazer 600
By Bertie Simmonds on 05/04/2008 16:03:24
Cheaper than chips and more versatile than a Swiss Army knife, the Yamaha Fazer is one of the few bikes that really can be (nearly) all things to all men - and all for under two grand
at it as a budget VFR.It was more flexible and versatile than the Hornet and Bandit it was up against, and more of a man's bike than the SV650. Despite having less power than the Hornet, the midrange torque of the more flexible Thundercat motor made it feel

Used Review: Honda CB600F Hornet
By Bertie Simmonds on 05/04/2008 21:49:32
Born in 1998's naked middleweight boom, the Honda Hornet has evolved into a more capable, practical machine than the tiny-tanked original model.
that only fat rubber can provide. Eventually the machine swopped to more 'normal' 17-inchers in 2000.Other flaws in the original were the poor fuel range and the brakes - which, according to Honda, were 'un-fierce' so as not to catch out the novice

Used Review: Honda VTR1000 SP-1 & SP-2
By Bertie Simmonds on 05/08/2008 22:16:35
Designed to take on and beat the Ducatis in WSB, the SP-1 and SP-2 did just that. But how does it fare in the more cut-throat world of used sales? Bertie Simmonds finds out.
996. It was cheaper though, being under £10K. It won WSB first time out with Colin Edwards, but on the road this thing had more snatch than a porn library and was almost as hairy if you gave it a handful.Thankfully new injector bodies on the SP-2 gave

Used Review: Yamaha YZF-R6
By Bertie Simmonds on 05/04/2008 16:08:21
Yamaha's feisty little R6 has deservedly gained a cult status amongst its fans, as a rev-happy, sharp-edged alternative to Honda's more easy-going CBR600.
-Cat had been the sensible man's choice - big, comfy and more than capable of going two-up in comfort or heading Europe-side for a spot of touring.Like the FZR600 a few years before it, the R6 became the racer on the road compared to the then more sensible

Used Review: Suzuki GSX1400
By Bertie Simmonds on 10/04/2008 19:10:37
It looked like a pit-bull, even if it was more of a lap-dog to ride. Blessed with good looks and mucho torque, Susuki's GSX1400 has proved to be a popular retro bruiser bike in used circles.
sexier as the piggy-back twin-shocks are so 'on show.' The shocks leaked after adjustment on some models (notably the K2) so if you're buying used question the owner to see if he has found any problems. If the bike's got red springs, it's a Jap import

Used Review: Honda CBR600F 1999-2002
By Bertie Simmonds on 05/04/2008 14:01:56
Year-on-year since its introduction in 1987, Honda's venerable CBR600F has been the undisputed king in the white-hot battle royal of the middleweight 600cc sports category. Bertie Simmonds checks out the last of the line
with the GPZ600R and FZ600 and, like the big bully they are, bog-washed and wedgied the pair of them into submission with the all-new CBR600F.Compared to the then class-leading Kawasaki, the CBR had around 10bhp more at the top end as well as being

Used Review: Triumph Sprint RS
By Bertie Simmonds on 05/04/2008 21:38:34
Quiet, unassuming and unpopular the Sprint RS may have been as a new buy, it now has a loyal following and makes a bargain sports tourer.
, I got back in one piece and none the worse for my ordeal. The days in the saddle gave me plenty of time to suss out the Sprint RS. Here was a solid, capable machine which shared most of its bits with the more expensive Sprint S - the ally beam

Used Test: Yamaha Fazer 1000
By Bertie Simmonds on 16/08/2008 21:50:12
Eagerly anticipated but horrendously expensive on its launch, the Fazer needed a price cut before gaining the popularity it deserved. But what about a used one?
grand more. A year later Yamaha took the hint and lowered the price to a 'mere' £7234. Suddenly, it all made more sense and the bike began to pick up a good following. It was still pricier than the Suzuki Bandit, but it was more modern and higher
