By Niall Mackenzie on 22/03/2010 11:45:39
Let Niall Mackenzie inside your head and get your riding into tip-top braking advice
of the bike so at this point I can then squeeze hard on the lever with virtually no risk of locking up the front wheel.Providing the braking force is kept constant the worst that can happen at this point is the rear lifts off the tarmac or comes slightly out

Mackenzie's top tips for trackday confidence
By Niall Mackenzie on 05/11/2010 15:58:25
Niall Mackenzie knows a thing or two about riding on track. Infact he's probably forgotten more than the rest of the Visordown team ever knew...
. Avoid locking the front by not trailing the brakes into corners, and trail the throttle mid-corner to avoid front-end wash-outs. In Kenny Roberts Snr's words: "You only ever lose the front when you're off the throttle."> Know where you're strong

Advanced Riding Course: Awareness
By Niall Mackenzie on 20/03/2010 15:10:34
Niall Mackenzie talks you through his top tips which could save you from a nasty incident
to the front brake. When braking in the wet, being upright is even more important. If I lock up the front wheel on slippy roads then quickly releasing the brake lever completely is the first step to letting the bike regain stability. Then the process has

Niall's Spin: Yamaha YZF-R6 (2000-01)
By Niall Mackenzie on 11/10/2010 11:47:52
Contender for the greatest 600 of all time and still a class act on the track and road, the bike that set the modern day standard in the supersport class is still a cracker
, but round town it isn't such a breeze and full lock U-turns are awkward. It's a small price to pay.Key ID: white LED rear lights distinguish it from the earlier R6Walk away: if the owner has a pile of shagged tyres and crash damaged leathers

Niall's Spin - Harley-Davidson VRSCA V-Rod
By Niall Mackenzie on 08/10/2010 16:45:18
The boldest move for Harley-Davidson in recent history was the VRSCA V-Rod, Niall Mackenzie takes it for a Spin
't. The brakes worked well on the road, but care was needed not to lock the skinny front tyre and on track it was more of a challenge. But ultimately, the V-Rod isn't built for going around race tracks. Its sole purpose is to cruise up and down the Kings Roads

Snippets from the Moto GP season opener
and you don't race.In the Moto 2 class Columbian Yonny Hernandez now the potential to be even more spectacular after FTR increased the lock stop travel on his Moto 2 machine. He is unquestionably the best backer - inner in this class and has to be seen

Niall's Spin: Ducati Monster S4R
By Niall Mackenzie on 30/09/2010 12:22:21
The Ducati Monster maybe a absolute blast but takes a real man to tame this one...
? The steering lock is rubbish so town work can be awkward and it's almost too fast and powerful for slow traffic, which is hard to forgive on an upright bike that looks so cool. Also the clutch is mega heavy, which only accentuates the bike's lack of town

Niall's Spin: Honda VFR800
By Niall Mackenzie on 30/09/2010 12:27:55
The VFR800 could be worse than its predecessor but it's still an institution to be reckoned with...
, anti-lock brakes take the guesswork out of stopping in the wet, but some riders still prefer to work all that stuff out for themselves. Build quality is reassuring, although keeping a high-mileage VFR in showroom condition requires some effort

Niall Mackenzie column - Mar 2006
By Niall Mackenzie on 01/03/2006 11:06:28
Niall looks forward to the future of Virgin Yamaha on Pirelli tyres
is very much a development one, so he is going to get tyres that the WSB guys will not get, to suit different conditions and give Rob's team a wider range of choice. In WSB the choice is sort of locked in for most of the year and Pirelli always has
