With just 42 days until the British Superbike season starts and the 2012 848 Challenge riders head to Brands for the first of eight rounds, I thought you'd like to see the lastminute.com preparations and hard graft going into my bike to get it ready

Got the van all stickered up

It's 643 miles to Assen, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes..
Will an 848 fit in a Bedford Rascal? Yes. Am I going to try? No. Why? Because the van's not mine, it belongs to Mike Collis at George White Slough and believe it or not, he uses it to ferry his GSX-R600 around.I'm tempted to buy one for my racing

I guess I was naive to think that I could get a crashed road bike, strip the fairings, fit race plastics, bolt on a set of end cans and be competitive in the 848 Challenge: my first season of racing.My first race at Assen was probably more fluke
