Discuss: The 999 will be a future classic
By Jon Urry on 18/02/2009 10:31:00
Today's unloved 999 superbike is tomorrow's enthusiasts' gold
After just four years Ducati dumped the 999 and reverted to what it knows best. The radical angles and flat flanks of the 999 were replaced by the more subtle curves of the 1098, a bike that unashamedly echoes the iconic 916's design. So was the 999 such a styling disaster? I don'...

2009 Kawasaki ZX-6R first ride review
By Jon Urry on 14/04/2010 12:16:39
It may only look like a small update, but there’s a lot more under the skin of the new ZX-6R. With a new look comes a more refined attitude
on revs and was flatter than the world economy anywhere else. This was a bike pitched at the trackday enthusiast and despite it being a finely honed circuit tool, when it came to riding on the road was a massive pain in the arse. Compared to the discovered

Fork in the road: Harley Street Rod vs. Yamaha R1
By Jon Urry on 17/01/2011 14:58:28
One man's floor is another man's ceiling. The words'sports bike' can mean very different things, so we compare two contrasting takes takes on a common theme.
planted confidence. You have to lean a fair way over on the 180-section rear tyre before the pegs make contact with the road, which means enthusiastic scratching is permitted without the constant distraction of metal on Tarmac. The configuration

Eire tours - GTR1400, FJR1300 and ST1300
By Jon Urry on 30/03/2008 09:37:13
Escape the rat race and get away from it all in the peace and quiet of Southern Ireland. Leave work at 5:30pm and the next day you could be here for just £82 plus a few tanks of fuel

First Ride: 2004 Triumph Tiger
By Jon Urry on 30/03/2008 19:28:44
Confusingly enough, this new Tiger is actually designated a 2005 model, even though it is already in the shops. Why? Supply and demand - the 2004 Tiger has sold out already! So what's new?
- especially in the wet - but this is mainly due to the lack of feeling and grip the on/off road tyres offer. Excellent in the dry, I find they aren't too hard to make skid in the wet if you apply the brakes a bit too enthusiastically. This is an extra worry

Road Test: 2007 600 Supersport review
By Jon Urry on 26/05/2007 20:30:05
Have the latest sports 600s taken track focus to a level where it has limited their viability as road bikes? It certainly looks that way, but then looks can be deceiving...
targeting track day enthusiasts and racers, hence the move back to a 599cc. Thanks to a brand new motor, the power and torque is almost the same as the 636cc engine, he claimed - it was just located a bit closer to the 16,500rpm limit.Speaking of rev limits

Best of British
By Jon Urry on 01/03/2007 23:36:25
There are still a few bulldogs out there, bearing their teeth at the foreign hordes. Let's celebrate all things British with a little help from two of our own musical legends. Pip pip and tally ho!
enough drive. The suspension is a bit soft for enthusiastic riding, but those settings mean you're not catapulted out of the seat at every pothole or imperfection in the road. And while the brakes are a bit weak, to be truthful you aren't going

New dogs, old tricks. Does a factory retro sit well in the modern garage?
enthusiasts. It's the small touches that set it aside and turn it from a pretty bike to a stunning one. The twin stacked pipes (although the original has separate megaphones), the old endurance racing styled tank, the retro Ducati logo, the handlebar mirrors

Pack Instinct: SM510R vs. 690SMC vs. SXV550
By Jon Urry on 11/11/2008 12:55:51
When you absolutely, positively, have to go completely stark raving mad this weekend there is only one path to take
We’ve only been in the saddle for 45 minutes but it’s taken a hefty toll. Arms are aching, bums feel like we have been beaten by an overly enthusiastic dominatrix and one bike is already on reserve. It’s only taken 39 miles for these supermotos
