By Bertie Simmonds on 29/03/2008 14:03:53
Let me see now. Ten years ago British biking was on the verge of something big. Our bike buying trends were going to be challenged by a bug-eyed kid from Yamaha - the TDM850.

Used Review: Triumph Daytona T595-955i
By Bertie Simmonds on 05/04/2008 17:59:57
A revelation when it first appeared: here was a proper British effort at a big sportsbike. Over the years while the competition has got wilder, the Daytona has stayed milder which makes the mature Daytona a very solid road bike
The impact of the first Triumph T595 should not be under estimated. Here was the first proper big British sports bike for many years and one which - on paper at least - promised to give the legendary FireBlade a run for its money. Cue 'Land of Hope

Used Review: Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird
By Bertie Simmonds on 05/04/2008 22:11:44
Ten years ago the Super Blackbird was celebrated as the fastest and most powerful thing on two wheels. Now, it's 'just' a very fast, big, sports tourer with an enviable reputation for quality.
the Blackbird kept popping up and giving them a bloody nose in group tests long after it shouldn't have. It was graceful with awesome build quality where the 'Busa was ugly and poorly finished; it had comfort and 'legs' where the ZX-12R was cramped and had poor

Road Test: BMW R1150GS V R1200GS
By Bertie Simmonds on 26/01/2011 16:41:13
The bold, brash and huge 1200 GS Adventure takes on its dad - the tough, slugging film star 1150 GS Adventure in the wilds of Wales.
the road. The motor feels solid, dependable with just enough shuddering surge to be interesting. Its forte is low to mid, simply short shift at about 4000rpm and let the torque punt you along. The 1200 feels immediately different. Despite giving nothing away

Road Test: Kawasaki ZZ-R600
By Bertie Simmonds on 28/05/2008 22:54:45
Like Barbara Windsor, it hasn't been considered sexy for years. So what's kept the ZZ-R600 on Kawasaki's books all this time? It's the fastest, squashiest, flying sofa has ever seen, that's why...
suspension: It's okay but veers towards sogginess quickly: this is exacerbated by the bike's weight and makes for a disconcerting lack of feel on the road. Firmer fork springs are virtually a must on older models. Be aware that pre-1995 bikes had

First Ride: 2007 Buell 1125R
By Bertie Simmonds on 29/03/2008 09:55:29
25 years in the making and Erik Buell finally makes the bike he always dreamed of: a liquid-cooled V-twin with plenty of poke and handling to die for. So has junking the Harley engines given Buell a new edge?
Simmonds...letting rip on the new 1125R"Turn six is the left hander before the Corkscrew. You don't need to go to the paint on the entry, hold it around three-quarters of the track width, then bring it back left so you can get the Corkscrew right

Living with a 2003 Suzuki GSX-R1000
By Bertie Simmonds on 10/11/2003 13:54:39
It's big, it's old and a bit of a relic. But enough about Bertie, see how he got on with the monster GSX-R1000
the light on and off in the toilets as well as the wrecked piston from the dropped valve that ruined Chris Walker's chances of the 2000 British Superbike title.I was in the capable hands of Alan Cook, who was going to give my bike a first service and whack

Used Review: Sports 600s
By Bertie Simmonds on 05/04/2008 17:38:51
Yesterday's supersports screamers are still duking it out on the used battlefield. Under cover of sunshine, Bertie advances on middle England with a bunch of war veterans to find out who still cuts the mustard gas.
they were pursued and slaughtered all along the road to Leicester. At least 100 female camp followers were murdered or mutilated by battle-crazed Roundheads. Yuck. There's a lot of emotion and pent up energy around old battlegrounds. And I'm adding to it as I
