First Ride: 2006 CCM FT35s
By James Whitham on 22/09/2010 12:10:00
Back from the brink, CCM return to the fray with a Suzuki motor wrapped up in one hell of a limited-edition piece of leftfield lunacy.
days I probably did 150-odd motorway miles, and it'll plod along at 90mph no bother. Where this machine comes into its own though is on twisty B roads. The wide bars, small size, awesome brakes and sharp handling mean it would be the weapon of choice

First Ride: 2008 Yamaha YZF-R6
By James Whitham on 10/04/2008 23:14:59
James Whitham used to be a bit tasty on an R6 in World Supersport, so he’s uniquely placed to give the ‘08 bike a proper seeing-to...
-line. All very clever. The YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) has also been tweaked to give more control over how fast the actual butterflies close when the rider shuts the gas, the plan being to improve braking stability and corner entry. Super

KTM 690 Duke R vs. Yorkshire Dales
By James Whitham on 04/11/2010 15:26:20
Highway to Heaven: Six bikes, six roads, six twats, six stories. Ben Bardon was forced to take photos of someone called James Whitham. Perhaps, more worryingly, he also had to listen to him for the best part of a Thursday afternoon
bike with good initial acceleration, efficient brakes, relatively soft suspension and wide bars, a bike you can boss about a bit... KTM 690 Duke R. Perfect. On this whole section of road you can rarely get over 50 or 60 mph. But you’re always

Living with a 2008 Ducati Monster 696
By James Whitham on 23/11/2008 10:37:02
James Whitham's review of the Ducati Monster 696. What's it like to live with?
less main-stream stuff like a Cagiva, a Mallaguti, a couple of Bultacos, even the odd Moto-Guzzi chucked in. Funny thing is, I’ve never actually owned a Ducati. I raced a superbike version of the 916 for a couple of seasons, and I’ve road-tested various

First Ride: KTM 690 Enduro & SMC
By James Whitham on 10/04/2008 11:23:23
These two bikes have a lot more in common than just the motor and are a much nearer to being able to live up to their name than any other street-moto or street-enduro machines currently on the market
690 SMCThe SMC, or ‘supermoto competition’ is basically the same bike as the Enduro. The only major differences being the wheels, brakes, gearing and the forks. The wheels are 17 inch spoked and fitted with sports road tyres, the front brake matches

Living with a 2007 Kawasaki Z1000
By James Whitham on 16/11/2007 14:42:22
James Whitham rides a Kawasaki Z1000 for a year and delivers his review
fuel stop you can cover ground.I also used it for doing some instruction on a track day at Knockhill and it coped loads better than I thought it would. In fact, if I'm honest, I had a right giggle chucking it about. On track the brakes were good

Living with a 2006 Triumph Scrambler
By James Whitham on 15/06/2006 16:49:10
James Whitham knows a thing or three about bikes. So how did he get on with the Triumph Scrambler?
of riding I do from home is typically short-haul. Nipping to a mate's house, shooting down to B&Q for another power tool (it's an affliction of mine) or dodging off to a local cafe for a brew. So mostly A roads with a bit of traffic on it then

2007 CBR1000RR v ZX-10R v GSX-R1000 v R1
By Jon Urry, James Whitham on 26/05/2008 21:03:41
Is WSB exciting right now, or what? JT's Blade neck and neck with the R1 of Nitro and Troy C. Not to mention Max and the new K7. But what of the road bikes that lie beneath? Yes, what of...?
on the track, so under the watchful eye of ex-WSB man James Whitham we rode them on the sun-drenched mountain roads of southern France. To the limit, and just a little bit beyond...FIRST UP, WHAT'S NEW? With Kawasaki's ZX-10R and Honda's Fireblade nothing has

Road Test: Supersport Superstars
By Jon Urry, Niall Mackenzie, James Whitham on 24/04/2008 18:56:19
How do you split five of the best supersport machines ever made? It's not easy, but using two of the UK's most successful and experienced racers, a Spanish race track and a day's riding on dry mountain roads is certainly a good start...
Sitting in a Spanish bar following two days of testing the new breed of 600s on both the track and road, we still haven't come to a conclusion. There are two pressing questions. First, who is our favourite film star and secondly, which is the best
