THIS BIG SOFT roader does pretty much everything it's supposed to. The DL is comfortable, cruises effortlessly and boasts bullet-proof Japanese reliability. All good news but I've never found riding V-Stroms a particularly inspiring experience.

The engine, which is a detuned TL1000 motor, gives good mid-range power between 4000 and 6000rpm allowing easy overtaking without constant gear shifting. The riding position cramped my legs slightly on really long stints, but otherwise I found wind protection and comfort to be first class.

The brakes too are top-notch. There's nothing like a green John Deere appearing from nowhere to get your attention so I have to give 10/10 for excellent anchors front and rear. I ventured down a few green lanes but neither the bike or me enjoyed the challenge so I'd say this one is happiest on the Queen's highway.

Overall the riding experience, like the styling, is okay but not special. The Suzuki V-Strom's strength is in being user-friendly and well balanced. It's far from bad motorbike and it's brilliant value for money, but it lacks the 'X' factor.
