Forget the latest camshaft-eating four cylinder Beemers and get yourself a run on one of these. Not the most powerful but certainly one of the most relaxing to ride, which is really what being a good tourer is all about. The torquey motor means leisurely gear changes, the neutral chassis ...  Continue reading

Obviously I'm a big fan of the Beemer. I would say it's not the best at any one thing but it is the ultimate jack of all trades in bike terms. I'm sure a Wing would get you to the South of France in more comfor Continue reading...
It's a safe bet if it is a reliable tourer you're after. Continue reading...
In its class, still number one. Get a clean tidy one, look after it and keep it. The 2010 RT1200 may be better, time will tell, but leave the 05-09 ones alone if you like to swing the bends together. Continue reading...
Open road yes. City no. I've had BMW's since quitting Triumph in the late Beatles era. The oilhead is quicker than my 1985 K100. Light years ahead of my old /5. Plenty of after-market seats available if one d Continue reading...

A recent convert from sports tourers to the out and out tourer and to say I weighed up the options is an understatement! No it doesnt have the smooth delivery of the Pan or any Goldies and the gearbox can be agricultural but for sheer reliability comfort economy and reliability you will not find a better tourer than the R1150RT. The electric screen is superb but may not be perfect for taller rider as I,m only 5ft 7 so its perfect for me and as for heavy I can manage it around town and put it on its centre stand with ease, so weight is not an isssue and to boot I get 50 to the gallon ....easily. Servicing and parts can be expensive but find yourself a mechanic away frpm BMW prices and you are on to a winner. MIne will never be for sale so buy one ..you wont regret it.

Ride safe....
