Covers the ground effortlessly and is massively engaging

Engine is super grunty and flexible
Bike looks ace
Feedback so you know what's going on
Very useable all rounder sportsbike
Feedback means you know what's going on - can be overwhelming
Luggage options limits practicality
A bit too fast for UK roads
Where do you go from here?
I tend to ride in a smooth and relaxed manner, rarely revving the engine too far, so revvy machines are not really my style. I enjoyed my CBR600F immensely, but found myself redlining it to get about everywhere. I decided it was time for a bigger engine. So I bought a KTM 990SM, but this was a bit too mad and not practical over distance, so I went out and bought a K5 GSX-R1000. Crazy? Not as much as you might think.

So is it a beast? Yes. If you open the throttle this thing will fly. Experienced riders only need apply. But having said that the throttle works both ways, and thanks to the excellent fuelling, it can be ridden easily around town (much smoother pick up than a fuel injected KTM for example, one of my major gripes with the 990SM).

Long distance touring? Easy peasy. The saddle gets sore after a while but that it usually down to the hard suspension giving your arse a pounding over UK crappy roads.

Knee down? Not for me. I ride as fast as I think the roads allow, and frankly you can just ride too fast on a litrebike, it's like lenghtening your stride by twice as much; barely a whiff of the light throttle is needed to make swift progress.

The bike still looks sharp 8 years after its release, mainly due to Suzuki's conservative sytling department not having changed their models much since. I have tracked this bike, and had a good time, but I prefer riding it on the road. What to buy next? Probably keep it, as this is plenty fast enough.

best bike ever........!!!!!!!!!!

bulletproof and amazing engine, sharp handling, styling, ridind position
brakes, what else?
the bike is a MONSTER yet very controlable.raw, controlable power from the engine brought the fun factor to a whole new level(the thing that later euro3 bikes don't have) and is still not matched by any bike.surely a future classic.

won the world sbk championship !!!

easy handling, awesome power/torque, pulls like a tractor but everything happens is under control and manageable
bullet proof engine, at the same miles, same use(25000) my old 2000 year model R1 was burning more than 1 lt of oil every 3000 miles...
brakes, acceptable on the road, crap on the racetrack-feel and have the power like a drum brake...also fade very very soon...
i hate the height of the seat, too low for my likes, took me six months of riding to decide if i keep the bike or not, because of this...i got used to that but still don't like it
i still owned it after 5 years and 22000 miles(bought it as a second-hand,less than 3000 miles on the clock), so that means i'm pleased with the bike and have fun every time i take it out for a blast!
also i lowered the front end 8 mm (tripleclamp-forks) and cut the drive chain shorter so the wheel-base came shorter about 10 mm, holds the line on the race-track much better now
sounds unbelievable great and loud with a micron gp-style ''silencer''
added a k&n air filter and saw 161 hp on the dyno, fuel-air mixture didn't need to be sorted
