Aprilia RSV4 Factory (2010 - present)

Our Review

IF YOU WERE as surprised as we were that Aprilia could not only get their V4 project right first time, but then offer it to us fully laden with GP technology and exotic cycle parts for a penny shy of fifteen grand, then the launch of the more affordable ‘R’ ...  Continue reading

This bike would be more interesting and involving to own over a few years than its rivals if you can afford it. In fact as it was a limited edition I am sure many will be kept by their first owners. Continue reading...

This bike is fantastic. I have ridden one a couple of hundred miles in southern Spain with Spyder Club and really loved it. The engine sounds fantastic even with standard can (but can get even better with an Austin racing can). It is very small for a 6'4" man but is not uncomfortable even after 6 hours. It is not nearly as stiff as i expected too. It soaked up all sorts of bumps just fine and is not nearly as stiff as my friends Mille RSV-R. The only problem is that on the standard tyres i found it a bit difficult to feel the rear end grip. It is not as confidence inspiring as the BMW S1000RR but feels more special. It is a bike that you could love and learn for years. I did drop it on the exit of an uphill hairpin (traction control or more skill would have helped) but overall i want one.

I cannot believe that i only gave it 4 stars. I think it is better than that but i just wanted to reflect that it is not perfect. The handling is great but not easy for relative novices (non racers) to feel confident on. Aprilia deserve to sell lots of these because it really is so much more special than the Jap litre bikes. Recommended.

I did 420 miles on the same RSV4 over the last 48 hours and went to Shropshire from London via some good country roads. I rode it in full power mode (T) which transforms the bike from last time i rode it. It is even better. The engine is even more ferocious than i remember from Spain and whenever there is a small straight the bike leaps round to big numbers. I had a puncture yesterday morning and it started leaking oil in the afternoon but apart from that it was brilliant. It was even quite good on my commute this morning. Car drivers check their mirrors when they hear this coming and it is easy to filter because it is small so it is actually a good commuter bike. Overall it has been a pleasure to spend time on and around.

I got to test ride an RSV4 at the weekend: mind-blowing machine and so so agile....

'S' mode was fine for the road and I wouldn't need more.

You pick any spot ahead and you are there before you know it...without consciously putting-in any effort to steer the bike.

The demo had the Akropovic exhaust and sounded phenomenal.

As  'Pilch' has already said: it is a small bike and cramped for the tallest riders.(More so than an 1198, R1 or Blade)

I did get comfortable on the open road, but it is sadly too compact for me - Cheers Aprilia!

IMO it deserves to sell well and is far more dramatic than the R1 and more entertaining than a Blade.

Standard model is good value... in white please.

There will be a recall due to serious engine problems.

I am 6 ft 2 in and my 1098 is by far the most comfortable sportbike I have ridden. CBR-1000, made for a munchkin. Felt like I was crouched down while sitting on the toilet. Gsxr 1000, felt like I was riding a barrel. Rode an MV 312r for about 40 minutes and was in pain. It felt like I was being Drawn and Quartered. Owned a Triumph 955i and the seats on those things are horrible. (Soft does not equal comfortable on a bike) Rode an R1 and it was the most bearable of the Japanese bikes. Honestly, I haven't had too much time on a ZX10 to really give a good opinion. All of my friends who are over 6 feet preferred the riding position of of the 1098 even over their own bikes. It's the short guys who have a problem with the ergonomics.

I'm just waiting for the Tuono version to come out.  Dunno why, i'll never afford it.

Sorry matey - that is not true: the recall was for camshaft-related issues, on pre-production bikes and none of those reached dealers.

Unless there is another we mortals don't know about?
