When Kawasaki entered the competitive naked 600 market in 2004 it pulled a familiar trick. Following the 636cc ZX-6R's lead, the firm simply entered the middle weight sector with a 600 that wasn't. The Z 750 is an excellent bike for either a beginner or like me an old fart who's had loads of bikes.

Got a bad rap in the UK press but our continental cousins bought them in thier thousands. Don't be put off by reports of budget suspension. You might want to upgrade if you like trackdays but I've clocked up 13,000miles in less than 12months and never found it to be a major issue. The seat is hard and after about 2hrs you start to feel it.

On the positive side, great meaty engine with good mid-range. Comfortable riding position and looks that always get a few people gathered round at stops. Bargain price, great first bike, healthy modding scene.

Summary: A bit like marmite.
