Superb All Rounder.

Looks sweet. Naked keeps your speed down. Lots or torque! Always draws attention.
Brakes aren't the strongest and need stripping every couple of months to stop them seizing up, they are however more than adaquate is used correctly. Small fuel tank means you only get about 100 miles before reserve. Only does around 40mpg with normal useage.
Brilliant bike.

Great fun but not overly practical.

Great fun, fantastic around town but also a very fast bike if you wring it's neck.Light and handles very well within the limits of it's budget suspension.
Zero mid-range,or that's how it felt coming from a 600 Fazer.
Massive fun to thrash but then it gets twitchy and the consumption is ridiculous.Dosn't use so much fuel if you ride sensibly...but that's a waste of a fun bike and if you ride like that a CBF600 is probably the bike for you.
Later bikes made in Italy and the build quality is nowhere near as good as the earlier Japanese bikes.
Brakes could be a lot better for the kind of performance available.
Great fun machine but not overly practical for everyday use and until I discovered FS365 I was constantly battling corrosion, stopped it getting any worse but by then a lot of damage was already done.Bikes from Honda's European factories aren't even close to the build quality of the Japanese ones and my 2004 F4 model seemed to rust in front of my eyes, even the plastics seemed to be much thinner than on my 03 900 Hornet...........made in Japan.I'd go so far as to say it was downright shoddy in places and sadly I've seen a lot of newer Hondas with scabby fork legs, rusty bars etc.
Great bike but the lack of midrange did my head in at times, had to kick down 2 gears when tweaking the throttle of the Fazer 600 I had before it would do the same job,got to be very hard at times.
Ideal if you want a budget sports bike, lower bars and up-rated suspension make for a giant-killer through the twisties. Not very economical though.FS365 pretty much essential unless you're a summer only rider.

quick reliable but twitchy

I bought mine a 1999 3 months ago with 65k on the clock. Since then I have put another 3k on it including a two up 1k tour of Wales. It has been bang reliable except a fuel pipe, clutch cable and fan motor all cheap to repair secondhand. The engine rvs freely to 13000 rpm with a noticable burst at 6,000 and 10,000rpm. I can easilly hit 100mph in third in around 7 seconds although some clutch slip is required get of the line quick without lifting the front! The finish overall is the usual Honda quality. I added a fender extenda, rear hugger, tank protector, crash bungs and fly screen.
As a fast naked it comes without a center stand which it really needs for any chain adjustment and general maintenance! When servicing the tank must come of to change all the plugs which I found a nuisance and lead to a burst feuel pipe. Without a passenger on board I find the handling twitchy and the tyre pressures must be strictly observed to avoid following road faults of which there are plenty in London. The handlebars are to low for me at 6ft tall and I raised them with 1" spacers although I still find them heavy on th wrists after a few miles. Lacks a fuel gauge, the tank range is poor!
A good package but budget suspension lets it down, though the engine is willing! NOT a good first big bike as it is far to fast and twitchy for the inexperienced........ a CB500 would be better. Overall as a budget built naked it does the job it is built for but one cant help thinking that the overall lack of equipment.... like a center stand or fuel gauge, with tank range never more than a measly 120 miles, that Honda could have come up with a much better bike for slightly more cash! Reliability is not an issue or even the overall finish but it lacks in areas that become a nuisance in everyday use or longers treks which it is well capble of even two up. Cruising two up at 100mph is possible with a fly screen and decent conditions but otherwise better to stay below 80 mph and less if windy and no passenger aboard as it can become very twitchy and demading! Its a revvy package that delights in being ridden hard and is well proven in the London despatch rider market often clocking well over 250k - but regular fully synthetic oil changes are a must! My overall feeling for the bike is that it is a cheap way into an exciting ride but one needs to be aware of the pitfalls of the budget build. Overall a great bike that could have easilly have been a better bike. As a city bike it is tremendous, a commuter with speed, a tourer just and something I always look forward to riding although in most conditions you are unlikely to rise above 6000 rpm in any built up areas.

Brilliant, fun all practical all rounder!

Reliability, Looks, Handling, Performance - nippy but not too mental for a beginner
Weak brakes, Bottom Yoke corrosion
I bought the Hornet to get me back into biking after a 5 year gap. I wanted something that would be fun and fast but also sensible and practical. The Hornet has definitely delivered, I got the bike in April this year (2010) and I haven't tired of it.

It's easy to ride and very forgiving. It is also very nippy - this is due to the slightly de-tuned CBR600 engine which has more than enough torque.

One of the best things about the Hornet is its looks and there are tons of mods out there for the bike.

To date I have added the following to mine -

Carbon Fender Extenda
Ultra Low Renthal Bars
Carbon Side Panels
Tank Tidy

There is a massive Hornet scene out there and the bike always seems to attract attention at bike meets.

My only small gripes are that the brakes are quite weak - but this can be sorted with Braided lines. Also the bottom yoke is prone to rusting but this can be easily sorted.

What are you waiting for - go buy one! :-)

Great Bike, Buy One!

Reliability, looks, handling, performance, all rounder
Fork bracket corrosion
A great all round bike, I stuck a Scorpion can on mine and it went a treat. Handles really well, you can embarrass people on bigger bikes with no trouble but you can also cover a lot of miles in comfort and that's from someone who's 6'4"!
If you're into naked bikes then I can't recommend anything higher than this.
