BMW R1200R - Slowly, all of BMW's R-series, 1150cc Boxer-engined range have been superseded by lighter, more modern, slightly groovier models with a punchier 1200cc (1170cc, actually) motor. And here, completing the set, is the R1200R, replacement for the staid but enduring R1150R. In the non-German bike world, 1200ccs, no bodywork and ...  Continue reading

Very smooth for a 1170CC boxer engine ( that is why I preferred the R850). Gear box is better but you can tell BMW still designed it. Handling is similar to my old RD400 but with more power. Linked breaks work Continue reading...

Currently enjoying the F800R.  After 20 year away from riding the F800R seemed like a good training bike and a gentle introduction.  Of course, on the back rounds of southern Illinois the cross winds reminded me consistly I was using an urban bike the wrong way.

The R1200R may have faults, some unfinished points as does the F800.  They are the "naked" bikes and will remain unpolished; at least at that price point.

My only point of curiousity is I am currently seated directly over the engine. With the R1200, I will be behind the cylinders and connected to the Telelever suspension.  Some reeducating  of my riding style is needed but why is the Telelever such a point of contention?

Is old school mixed with the new bits the wrong approach?  Do we need bikes that have larger displacements than some cars, and possibly more plastic?

Give me updated and naked; along as that drive shaft behaves, I will be an iconic design in its truest form.

Need to know

Looks good and the 1200 engine is very pleasant to ride.

Don’t let the look fool you. It's not an aggressive naked bike, more a soft naked tourer.
