If you want a tourer that's comfortable and reliable the DN 01 must be the best bike out there.

Reliable, comfortable and with panniers and top box it's a tourers dream. It's quick enough for any autobahn.
Unlike a lot of bikes the pillion isn't ten feet above you. There are also plenty of accessories to help with rider and pillion comfort.
To be honest I really can't think of any thing I don't like about the bike.
For a so called cross over, it go's like a bike and looks like a bike, I can't recommend it enough. For anyone who wants a stylish reliable tourer that's easy to use this bike has to be the one.

Very good all round commuter. Also good fun for blasting around country lanes

Two auto modes and a six speed 'manual' to keep your left thumb fit.
Foot-boards scrape the ground too easily round corners.
I have had my DN-01 since new and I feel that I can say that I have thoroughly tested it enough to write a review. I first saw some drawings early in 2005 and said to my Honda dealer that I wanted one there and then............ Three years later I picked mine up and I would never part with it, it is definitely 'A Keeper'. I also got the black one, I would have loved to have got the metallic red one that I have also seen, but that, I believe was for the USA. After running the DN-01 in on my daily 80 mile commute I gave it a good test through the different modes of gear selection and I found that you do notice the gear change if you use 'manual' mode and take the machine up to a tiny bit before the rev limiter at 9500 RPM. WARNING, do not try this on an open road..........I have had no problem getting mine over 110mph. (again, this is illegal in the UK) I do not ride like that normally but I do like to know how a bike handles and brakes and the DN-01 has no trouble in this department. When it comes down to it, its the 'gearbox' that you are riding on this machine as the engine is really just an oil pump that generates the torque for the drive. I like riding as often as I can and this is always the first bike I take. During my commute (10000 + miles a year) I have been getting an average of about 65 MPG, with 70 MPG being quite common for me. I have often wondered what would happen if a diesel engine had been used, perhaps a step too far for most conservative motorcyclists.

DN 01 First impressions after a 100 mile ride.

Lovely quality and attention to detail.
Unique styling.
Bullet proof motor.
Transmission must be one of the best 2 wheeled autos available.
Excellent handling for cruiser type chassis.
Superb braking system.
A little cramped for taller riders.
Instruments partially hidden from view by screen.
I am 6'3" and initially found the riding position a little cramped. I adjusted position and got used to it as the miles increased but in the long term I might get the seat adjusted slightly to give a little more leg room.
This bike has a reputation as a failure by Honda to some journalists, one of the reasons being that it doesn't fit properly in any of the accepted categories. What does it matter? you either like it or you don't. If you don't you'll discount it at the first hurdle to motorcycle ownership, no problem.
My ride was the first after picking the bike up from the dealer.
I set out on a cold and blustery day but well protected by my gear.
Running in meant keeping it below 5000 revs, which is no problem as 4500 = 75mph.
The transmission is a revelation, in drive mode there is seamless changing of gearing at about 3500 revs where the torque is for effortless acceleration.
In sport mode the engine revs are allowed to climb a further 500 revs for any given speed.
There is also a manual mode where you can use 6 virtual gears with a rocker switch on the left bar.
I stuck to Drive mode and was surprised how easy it was to keep up with traffic, it was all very relaxed.
Handling and braking are far better than you would reasonably expect from a cruiser type chassis.
I got back from my ride very relaxed, more than I have done on the same ride with geared bikes covering dual carriageway A and B class roads.
The quality of finish on the bike top notch.

Don't knock it until you've had chance to ride one!

Everything except the purple paint.....
Nothing, except the purple paint........
It's a cracking machine, and now the price has been reduced to sensible levels people should start to take notice a bit more. Its the amalgamation of alot of different technologies, so Honda being sensible used some parts that they know a tried and tested. So it only has a top speed of 110mph???? How fast do you need to go to kill yourself huh?? Not all of us want to ride at break neck speed thanks. I love its styling - its different! If I wanted to blend in with the crowd I'd buy a Harley or one of the clones.... The only down side Ive been told about is the height of the screen - quote 'its the only bike I've ever ridden, where I get a cold belly button'! Well if thats the worst thing going for it, then its gotta be a great bike. Shame you can only get them in horrible purple or black here in the UK, I really do want a Pearl White one LOL - just so I have something else to clean!!! I now an amputee (left leg), I don't want to have to spend another £700 pounds on top of the price of any geared bike just to have a gear changer fitted, some a machine like this instead of a Maxi Scoot is a real welcome addition to motorcycling as far as I'm concerned and its been a real brave move by Honda not just to go down the same route it did before with the God Awful CB400/750 Hondamatics. Using the NTV derivied engine was a great idea - bomb proof, proven and quiet. Shaft drive from low maintenance - inspired! Modern looks - beauty is in eye of the beer holder!!!
