I've got the S-MX 5 WP model (water proof) and I'm impressed with these so far, only having them for about a month (1000 km).
They have less replaceable parts than some of the higher up competition, but all the same protection - armor on the shin, sides of toes, top of toes, achilles (back of ankle), heel. The instep closure system is a zipper and velcro combination which works to give you a nice secure feel. Mine are a 1/4 size too big, but they're still supportive while being comfortable.
I've not yet been on track with them, but they seem to be up for a good race. On the road it's easy to manipulate both the shifter and rear brake with adequate feedback. Once they're broken in more, I'm sure these will be a great bit of kit.
Plus, you don't look like a Power Ranger when you're wearing these; they look cool but not outrageous.
