Last December I was willing every set of lights ahead of me to turn red. It was the one chance during my daily commute to warm my hands by grabbing my exhaust pipe, engine or anything else with heat source that would give me a few seconds of warmth.
Summer gloves are great because you can feel what your fingers are doing, but they’re no use once it gets really cold. So I was more than happy to get the chance to test out a winter glove from Bering and to stop coming to a halt at every given opportunity.
The Bering Zoom comprises of a reinforced palm, double wrist strap and carbon fibre protection. Designed specifically as a leather winter glove, they feature ‘PrimaLoft’ which is warm, breathable and offers superior water resistance. Although I have some how managed to escape major deluges, the gloves have so far kept me completely dry.
My daily commute in London is between 30-40 minutes each way and the Zoom gloves have been a joy to use over the last two months. What I love about them is that they are thick enough to give a good level of warmth, but no so thick that can’t feel what your fingers are doing. Stitching seems good quality and after 600 miles they still look brand new.
At £79 they are well worth the money. The only downside being at the end of the ride on exceptionally cold days my fingers have begun to get a little chilly after half an hour. Having said that, I have not had to grab my exhaust pipe once. Except to stop a gasket bolt rattling on one occasion.
