SHARK have just released this new helmet, the Speed-R. We love the paintjob, here's what they have to say about it:

Speed –R:

Brand new and oozing with style the Speed –R joins SHARK replacing the RSI range. Over the past year the French company has completely overhauled its look with the introduction of three new fibre helmets; Race –R Pro, Race –R, Vision –R, and the Speed –R is the new fibre composite kid on the block. Developed using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) technology, which ensures efficient ventilation aerodynamics. The back of the helmet features a double bladed spoiler and allows air to flow above and below the blade, extracting warm air from the helmet. There is also a spoiler on the rear base, which stabilises the helmet and cancels out uncomfortable movements normally generated by rough aerodynamics. The immediate effect of this is, no air turbulence running inside the helmet and a greater stability at steady speed.

As with the Race –R range of helmets, the Speed –R offers an impressive optically correct field of vision thanks to the varied thickness of the visor, 4.25mm thickness in the middle to 3mm at the sides. There are four anchor safety lock points on the visor, also anti-scratch and anti-fog coatings.  Other features of the Speed -R include; a double D-fastening ring, sunshield, Easy Fit system for wearers with glasses and a weight of 1450g.

The Speed -R will be available in SHARK dealers from January, and priced around £250.

I bought a shark speed r today. first impressions fells and looks like a mid range helmet but then i am comming down from a shoei multitec to this helmet due to buget. the speed r is certainly far more noisey than the shoei and the visor does not ratched up and down finding that you either have it shut or completey open. not quite as comfy as the shoei though it needs time to wear in i hope. the drop down sun visor is a positve part as i wear glasses and now do not need to carry two pairs of glasses. d/d rings so fastening is good to.
its not a bad helmet for your money though another £100 would put you in an shoei xr1100 lid big difference i think or a little more to the quest although a touring helemt design. speed r scores a 4 star sharp test rateing.
Its true you only get what you pay for, though remember in five years its in the bin anyway.

I bought this helmet last week, having tested it out on 3 rides so far I am pleased with it. Although I am a large it is a comfy fit, perhaps a little too tight around the forehead. I tried XL but was too big.
The quality is nice, the shape and style is well thought out and resembles a higher priced lid.
My only criticisms are; that the visor catch is very small and when wearing gloves its very difficult to undo when in traffic etc. I would have preferred a larger thumb push to open the visor.
The inner drop down tinted visor is much better than previous Shark helmets as it rests lower and more in keeping with your line of sight but again, its claimed to be "Anti-fog", its far from it. in fact, the slightest puff of air will have you hitting the panic button when in slow moving traffic due to it misting so easily.
