Eight waterproof textile jackets

It's cold and it's wet but with a waterproof textile jacket you'll be able to keep plugging on through the winter weather.

To give you an idea of what is available we've pooled together a selection of eight jackets that are on the market, from the budget to the range toppers.

When buying the right jacket there is much to consider, and that's after you've decided whether the colour will match your bike and lid. Some of the numerous questions to ask when looking for the ideal waterproof jacket include: Is there CE-approved armour to the elbows and shoulders, and preferably the back? Is there a removable thermal liner? Do the adjustable cuffs fit comfortably under gloves? Does it have a full-length or rear zip and is it compatible with your textile trousers? Is there a velcro collar strap and storm collar? And does it have plenty of pockets?

However, as expected, there are a host of nice-to-haves; Gore-Tex or an equivalent lining, more colour options - winter offerings are inherently black only, extra adjustable straps to the arms, back and waist for a tailored fit and hi-viz panels.

I've got the Triumph Explorer suit and have found it totally waterproof, and I've used it through some very heavy rain. Another option if your bothered about the name on it, I ride a Honda!

Were all these jackets shot with a wide angle lens? They all look like XXXL jackets.

I have a Rukka, and the only place I ever get water is around the neck in intense storms when water comes through the helmet and down my neck, otherwise I stay completely dry even after 4 years and 80000km in this suit.

What a crap review! There is nothing here that I could not have read on the manufactures web page. Come on – how about something useful – like what are they like to wear in use!! In the wet!!
