It never feels right shooting your son in the face

If you’re into boy’s toys then a day out at the newly opened Westlands Activity Centre, near Annan on the Scottish border, might just hit the spot while you’re waiting for some better biking weather to arrive.

Last week I had the honour of opening this seventy acre, fun filled facility where you can quad, mini moto, kart, paint ball and shoot clay pigeons, and all in a stunning woodland complex. Yvonne and Billy Kelly, together with sons Ross and Scott (Scott races in British Supersport) recently moved from Northern Ireland to launch their dream business.

They have invested heavily in new equipment while working flat out over the winter to make sure everything was up and running for the new season. I tried out everything with the Quad excursion through deer filled forests on new Polaris machines being my favourite.

However, getting chased around for half an hour by three idiots maliciously blasting me with paint pellets was slightly less appealing. I now know, a sniper I will never be. Kids are also welcome as junior karts and quads are available and the cafe is first class with some seriously yummy cakes.

Corporate days, Bar Mitzvahs, stag, hen and divorce parties can all be catered for so Westlands might be just the venue to kick off the daytime celebrations.

I cannot imagine that - with three Mackenzie's involved - any part of the day was at all competitive...
