WSBK 2015: Portimao race two results

Rea continues to dominate taking his fourth double win of the season

FOURTH double win of the year for Jonathan Rea in Portugal as he extends his Championship lead.

The second World Superbike race of the day got underway with almost perfect conditions as the rain disappeared allowing a ful 20-lap dry circuit.

Rea won his 10th race of 2015 by 5.416s and this moves him into 3rd overall in terms of most consecutive podium finishes (15) ahead of Carl Fogarty who has 13.

Tom Sykes initially led before being passed by his Kawasaki team-mate Rea and Davide Giugliano. The trio pulled clear of the pack as their pace increased at the front.

Rea began to stretch a lead, leaving Sykes and Giugliano to fight for second until the former Champion’s ZX10R suffered a technical problem which left Sykes to finish in 8th.

Leon Haslam took full advantage of Sykes’ situation to take 3rd – his first podium since Aragon race 2. Chaz Davies finished in 4th scoring yet more solid points ahead of Pata Honda’s Michael van der Mark and Sylvain Guintoli who finished fifth and sixth respectively.

Jordi Torres scored 9 points with his 7th place finish ahead of Sykes, Leandro Mercado who was in the top ten once again on his Barni Ducati and Matteo Baiocco.
