WSB 2014: Jerez race 2 results

Marco Melandri does the double with his team-mate in tow

APRILIA’S Marco Melandri did the double after winning race one and race two at Jerez this weekend.

Melandri’s team-mate Sylvain Guintoli took the lead from the start ahead of Tom Sykes who had a bad start and a poor race one for a World Champion, but made up for it in race two.

Melandri was shuffled down the pack to begin with but worked his through the 20-lap race to pass his team-mate in the latter half of the race to take the double with Sykes in third.

Ducati’s Chaz Davies finished fourth whilst Pata Honda’s Jonathan Rea rounded out the top five. Sylvain Barrier finished in 11th overall and top EVO rider as David Salom, top EVO rider in race one, crashed out at the beginning of race two.

Voltcom Crescent Suzuki’s Eugene Laverty and Alex Lowes finished in sixth and ninth respectively with Loris Baz and Leon Haslam sandwiched between them in seventh and eighth.

Ducati’s Davide Giugliano retired on lap 2 due to a technical issue.
