LEON HASLAM required 17 stitches in his elbow following his nasty highside in Race Two at the US leg of the 2010 World Superbike Championship from Miller Motorsports Park.

The plucky Brit was ejected from his Alstare Suzuki GSX-R1000 while fighting for a podium position in the second WSB race of the day.

“I was making good progress in the second race and was up to fifth place when the rear tyre just lost traction at one of the hairpin corners and I was thrown off the machine," said Haslam. "I’ve had a load of stitches in my elbow but I’ll be fine for the next round.”

Here's a picture of Haslam's injured elbow, complete with drain pipe.

Aren't armoured leathers supposed to stop this sort of injury?
