Three wildcard appearances have been scheduled by Yamaha for its MotoGP test rider, Cal Crutchlow, including at the British MotoGP in August.

As well as the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Crutchlow will wildcard at the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, and at the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano, although the latter two are still subject to IRTA confirmation.

Crutchlow’s MotoGP record is mixed across all three circuits. Silverstone saw him claim a home podium in 2016, but also saw him crash four times in one weekend in 2013, while a 2018 podium at Misano was the #35’s only top-five MotoGP finish at the San Marinese race. Mugello was the site of a podium in 2013 after Marc Marquez crashed out, but he hasn’t finished in the top five at the Tuscany track since.

While Silverstone stands out at Crutchlow’s home race, the races at Mugello and Misano are both followed by one-day post-race Monday tests which will be key for Yamaha to maximise as they look to return to competitiveness.

Already this year we have seen KTM focus their wildcard entries on GPs that are followed by tests, with Dani Pedrosa racing this weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix and Pol Espargaro scheduled for a wildcard at Mugello.

Crutchlow’s wildcards were announced by Yamaha during the Spanish Grand Prix, which is taking place this weekend at Jerez. Although Crutchlow isn’t wildcarding at Jerez, KTM (Dani Pedrosa), Honda (Stefan Bradl), and Aprilia (Lorenzo Savadori) all have one wildcard rider each this weekend.
