DORNA have decided to drop the 'Rookie Rule' for 2013 that prevents newcomers from immediately joining a factory team in MotoGP, therefore opening the door for Marc Marquez to step up to MotoGP in the Repsol Honda team.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO for Dorna, made the announcement in an interview during MotoGP.com's coverage of the Silverstone round, saying that after discussions with the manufacturers' association MSMA it was decided that there is no reason for the restriction to exist.

The proposal for the change will now be up for approval at the next GP commission at Assen in two weeks time.
