CASEY Stoner was gifted an easier time at Assen when Jorge Lorenzo was taken out at the first corner by a wild and out-of-control Alvaro Bautista.

Pedrosa led from turn one for the majority of the race, but Stoner was right on his tail. Stoner pulled the pin in the latter part of the race, while Spies and Dovizioso scrapped for the last spot on the podium.

Dovizioso came out on top - a huge blow for Spies, who suffered problems with his rear Bridgestone during the race and who's factory seat is already being linked to Dovi in 2013.

Spies wasn't the only rider to suffer tyre problems, Valentino Rossi was another rider who suffered a de-laminating Bridgestone. He pitted with 10 laps to go to change the rear tyre, eventually finishing in 13th.
