Intermot: Ducati 2013 new colours

Shiny, pretty things...

NO new bikes on Ducati's Intermot stand except the revamped-for-2013 Multistrada but there are splashes of new colours across the range.

The Diavel moves away from its black-or-red roots with a new metallic blue-and-a-white-stripe scheme. The same treatment can also be had in metallic red, and there's the addition of a Ducati's traditional “Dark” option – matte black – to the range. The higher-spec Diavel Carbon comes only in carbon/red.

On the Monster, Ducati is marking 20 years since production started with “Anniversary” versions of the 696, 796 and 1100 Evo models. Like the original Monsters, they're red with a bronze coloured frame, gold (coloured) calipers, disc carriers and master cylinders and a chrome headlight support. The mirrors are also old-school round ones instead of the stylised shapes on the stock Monster, while the seat is given what the firm refers to as “90's style” fabric. No, we don't know either – maybe it's cut from shell suits?

The Ducati font on the tank is also the older design, as on the original Monster. Accurate tribute to the original the Anniversary models may be, but with so many Monsters in the intervening 20 years also selling in similar colour schemes, they don't immediately stand out.

On the superbike front, the 2013 Panigale is unaltered but will be offered in white as well as red, while the 848 Evo Corse Special Edition (no mini-Panigale just yet) comes in the Ducati Corse Test Team colours – matte black and matte grey with an aluminium fuel tank.

In terms of new models, the biggest clue comes in the fact the Hypermotards on the Ducati stand are all 2012 models, effectively confirming that come next month's Milan show there will be a new Hypermotard (the oft-spied water-cooled replacement for the existing machine) on display.

You will be able to see this bike at the NEC Motorcycle Live from 24th November to 2nd December.
