MIDGE SMART - Visordown's R6 Cup racer - had a fantastic weekend at Thruxton. At the BSB season opener at Brands Hatch, Midge took third place, with a gutsy ride, so it was all to play for at Thruxton.
In qualifying, Midge had problems with too soft a setting on his rear shock, causing his tyre to slide at various points on the track, including the insanely fast, flat-out Church Corner.
Starting from 13th on the grid, Midge was up to 10th just a few laps in. Lap after lap he showed consistent pace and made his way up through the pack. By lap five, a group of six had broken away and Midge was battling it out in the chasing pack of three.
The trio battled it out for much of the race, but Midge lined up an overtake on sixth placed rider, Brad Howell, a gutsy move around the outside of the fast right hander after the straight.
It looked like Midge would take sixth and add more vital points to his tally, but with a lap to go, fourth-placed Dane Hellyer crashed out so Midge moved up to fifth place overall.
A great race and Midge maintains his third place in the championship going into Round 3 at Silverstone.
