Molyneux gets 18 months probation for wife attack

Multiple TT champion escapes custodial sentence after judge tells court he needs help rather than punishment

MULTIPLE TT sidecar champion Dave Molyneux has been sentenced to 18 months' probation for assaulting his wife.

Molyneux, 44, was sentenced earlier today after last month admitting the attack on wife Gaynor, causing actual bodily harm. The attack happened just hours after he finished as runner up in the second sidecar race at this year's TT on June 4.

Molyneux had gone out drinking before grabbing his wife by the throat and pushing his hand against her face.

Sentencing Molyneux, High Bailiff Michael Moyle said: 'Domestic violence is an ugly offence. It is distasteful when a man raises a hand towards a woman.'

Mr Moyle said Molyneux needed help rather than punishment.
