A MAN from Ripley in Derbyshire has been sent to prison after inflicting an unprovoked and sustained attack on a motorcyclist who was stopped at a set of traffic lights in the town.
Jack Bynard, 21, together with 19-year-old Connor Hosie assaulted the rider by punching him in the head and legs, and throwing pieces of concrete at him. The pair also damaged the bike.
Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: ‘The motorcyclist saw two males walking by the side of the road and within a couple of seconds one had got on the back of his bike and said take me up town.’
The complainant refused and shouted for help from a friend who lived nearby and after entering a house, the pair threw a rock at the front door.
The pair were then seen to jump on the victim’s abandoned bike before going back to the house where the victim was taking shelter.
Bynard was arrested and smashed one of the windows in the police car he was placed in, cutting an officer.
He was already on a suspended sentence for carrying a knife in public, and during his trial at Chesterfield magistrates court he pleaded guilty to assault, damaging a motorcycle, damaging a door and another vehicle and assaulting a police constable.
Defence solicitor Peter Jones said: ‘Mr Byard has no recollection of the incident due to intoxication.’
Magistrates sentenced Byard to 34 weeks in prison and he was ordered to pay £500 compensation.
Hosie's case was adjourned for a summary trial at Chesterfield magistrates court.
