David Jefferies' Superstock bike for sale

Title-winning GSX-R1000 from 2002 at auction

MORE than a decade after his untimely death at the 2003 Isle of Man TT David Jefferies remains a legend in British bike racing and one of his most successful machines is up for auction this month.

The 2001 Suzuki GSX-R1000 that he rode on his way to winning the 2002 British Superstock championship is being offered at Bonhams Stafford sale on 27 April. One of only two machines he rode during that title-winning effort, it’s a piece of history.

Bonhams’ notes on the bike reveal it’s unchanged since the end of 2002, but has been started on a weekly basis and been given annual oil and filter changes to ensure it hasn’t deteriorated. In terms of spec, it’s a Superstock bike, so mods are restrained but include a blueprinted engine, Power Commander, Akrapovik exhaust and Ohlins fork internals.

How much for a machine that will surely in future be the sort of thing that will get you an invitation to ride up the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed? Bonhams estimates it will take between £6000 and £8000.
