What the road may have looked like, yesterday
A MOTORCYCLIST has escaped a ban by convincing a judge he was speeding to avoid an accident.
Police clocked Stephen Sharp, of Millom, Cumberland at 56mph in a 30mph limit wile riding his Suzuki GSX-R1100. Mr Sharp pleaded guilty.
Sharp told Furness Magistrates there was a large amount of muck on the road, which prevented him from braking to 30mph for fear he'd lose traction. Sharp also claimed a friend was involved in a motorbike accident in the same spot a few years ago, believing the dirt and grit on the road played a part in the accident. Mr Sharp used photos to illustrate his case.
Sharp was fined £175 and £35 costs. He was also awarded with five penalty points to his licence.
