Suzuki GSX650F world launch report

The sentiment here in Beziers today is that Suzuki have pretty much hit the target bang-on with the GSX650F. Read the spec sheet and you'd think this was a Bandit with a fancy fairing, but the execution lifts it well above that.

With a smooth free-revving and handily plucky motor, competent predictable chassis and strong consistent brakes the ride is never less than confidence inspiring. A great platform for the new rider honing his or her skills. In fact it's never less than good fun.

Top whack is an indicated 130mph - more than enough for the intended market.Anyone looking for a sports bike with all round useability and superior ridecomfort will be more than satisfied with this package. Suzuki have, it seems, tweaked the Bandit's engine mapping and the suspension to make this 650 more sporting than you may have anticipated. And it's a good deal more refined than you may think too.

Suzuki call the mix an 'everyday sport ride' that will suit anyone fromentry-level to veteran. There were no novices on this launch but us vets (plentyof) considered ourselves well satisfied. Judging by the marketing, Suzuki arelooking to create a new niche for this bike, but traditionalists could just callit a damn fine sport tourer, for that is what it is.

Price has been confimed as £4,999. Availability is now. TWO's full test will bepublished in the February issue.
