Schumacher out of 8-hour endurance race

Mechanical gremlins and a qualifying tumble plague Schumi's weekend race at Oschersleben

MICHAEL SCHUMACHER'S first attempt at endurance racing ended in disappointment this weekend after the German's machine developed mechanical trouble.

Schumacher's team, Honda Holzhauer Racing, showed promising performance at the start of the 8-hour race at Oschersleben but the team spent much time in the pits due to mechanical problems. Sources say Schumi's team-mates, Martin Bauer and Matthias Von Hammerstein, were pleased with the way the ex-F1 world champion rode, despite a tumble during qualifying.

In the end victory went to Team Kawasaki France in the fourth round of the Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship, with a one-lap lead over Yamaha Austria Racing Team and two laps over Suzuki Endurance Racing Team.

The next round of the Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship will take place in France at Nevers Magny-Cours for a 24 Hours race, the 13th and 14th of September.
