Spies... testing Suzuki MotoGP bike

BEN SPIES couldn't better Ducati test pilot Niccolo Canepa's time at yesterday's MotoGP test session at the Indianapolis track.

The Suzuki man was at the track as part of his preparation for the first MotoGP round of the championship at the historic circuit next month.

Still getting to grips with the 800cc bike, AMA Champion Spies told motogp.com: “It´s just that this is a new motorcycle for me so I´m just trying to do as many laps as I can, and that´s about it. The track, after a few laps you learn it no matter what, so I am just trying to get more comfortable on the bike. In the end, we´re getting faster and faster so it was a pretty good day.

“I think there´s a couple little things they can improve, but I also think the people at the track are definitely going to go for that and make it happen for the race and fix what´s needed to be fixed to make it better. For the first time on the track, I think it´s a pretty good starting point.”

Spies' best time was a 1m 44.227, set on his 91st lap of the day. He was 0.051s behind pace setter Niccolo Canepa on the 800cc Ducati.
