A WELSH motorcycle show planned for the May Bank Holiday weekend has been
cancelled by police because they fear violent clashes between rival biker
gangs.
The annual Welsh National Motorcycle Show was to have taken place at the
Royal Welsh showground in Powys. But Dyfed-Powys Police said there would be a
"significant risk of violence" if this year's show went ahead.
Now the show's organisers are saying that they may take legal action against
the police for what has been called a sledgehammer to crack a nut
A police statement said: "Dyfed-Powys Police has serious reservations about
the potential security implications of holding the Welsh motorcycle show at
Builth Wells this year. The reservations are based on a significant increase
in violence between rival motorcycle gangs across the UK as a whole.
"Recently the NEC Birmingham cancelled a motorcycle show to protect the
safety of everyone involved. The organisers of a similar show in Derbyshire have
also cancelled that event. Additionally Warwickshire Constabulary is in the
process of mounting a legal challenge against a show to be held in their
area."
The show's organisers responded by sayling: "For reasons known only to the
police and the committee of the RWAS, the committee have after consultation
with Dyfed-Powys Police decided to cancel the Welsh International Motorcycle
Show."
What a bloody farce, rival biker gangs? What bloody century are these people
living in? Good god, normally we appreciate the cops and the help they give
us but Jesus Christ what a bunch of morons.
Tell you what coppers, you lot just get on and concentrate on stopping
teenagers getting knifed to death in the centre of busy shopping areas in broad
daylight, that seems to be a quite prominent problem at the moment - certainly
more so than hordes of 'rival bike gangs' rampaging across the country.
