FOUR-TIME World Supersport champion Kenan Sofuoglu recently took to the road on a Kawasaki H2R and clocked a staggering 400kmh - 248.54mph - in an attempt to set a new production bike top speed record.
The run was also staged to celebrate the opening of the Osman Ghazi Bridge, the fourth longest suspension bridge in the world, in his native Turkey.
Sofuoglu took to the bridge at 5am and hit a top speed of just under 250mph mph to cover the 0.93-mile long centre section of the bridge in just 26 seconds.
Considering the supercharged H2R’s 320+hp, the top speed might not come as too much of a surprise but the time it takes to get there is incredible – less than 30 seconds.
Speaking afterwards, Sofuouglu said:
‘I reached 400kmh, the maximum speed that this motorcycle could have, after a long four months of training.
‘When I asked for the motorcycle in 2015, Kawasaki said its maximum speed was 380kmh, and I made small changes to the motorcycle – keeping its original settings – and did not modify it. I reached 390kmh in my last trials and today I beat this and reached 400kmh.’
