Yamaha boss tips Brits for 2010 success

Massimo Meregalli bigs-up Brit duo ahead of next year's WSB series

YAMAHA WSB team boss Massimo Meregalli has said Cal Crutchlow’s confidence and self belief will be the key to his success during his first year in WSB next season, and that James Toseland will be one of the main players in 2010.

And if that’s not good enough news for British racing fans, he also reckons that for 2010 his squad will be even stronger than the title winning outfit he put together this year.

He said: “Overall I think we're stronger, because both riders are capable of fighting for the title. Toseland has returned to Superbike, determined to prove that opinions about him are mistaken. He wants to win his third title and I'm sure he will be one of the key protagonists. As for Crutchlow, we wanted him badly because we believe he is a true talent. What strikes me the most when I speak to him is that he transmits incredible self-assurance. It'll be his first season in Superbike but I reckon he will be fighting up front with the top guys right from the start.

"Our bike this year was very well balanced. We are not yet at the top for power, by that I mean acceleration and top speed, but without a shadow of doubt it's an excellent package. I have to say that maybe we suffered a bit on tracks with a rough surface but we're working on this as well."

Maybe, but we reckon Ben Spies will be a very hard act to follow.

Meregalli will be lucky if he see's a repeat of this year in the 2010 WSBK season .. in saying this he's actually putting them under more pressure to perform in 2010 than they were already!!

i agree Ben Spies will be a hard act to follow ... Ben Spies is 'THE' next big thing to happen to motorbike racing .. and it was more a combination of his machine like persona, raw talent and the excellent crew chief/mechanic team he brought with him that brought that success to Yamaha this year!! I don't believe for one minute that the bike in race trim is well balanced at all .. in testing for last season there was very little between Tom Sykes and Ben Spies in actual times but come the races .. the gulf between them was massive despite Tom efforts.Ben Spies is just one of those rare rare talents that will take over from Rossi and beat his records in Moto Gp i truly believe that!! To see how he adapted his riding style in that race in Valencia compared to how he had ridden the WSBK bike just amazed me .. in one weekend he did what James Toseland couldn't do in two season's ADAPT to the bike, tyres and machine!!

i think it's Haga's championship to loose in 2010 though watch out for Biaggi too that Aprilia is a better bike than the Yamaha and now it's got a season's worth of data behind and hopefully young Leon Camier to back up Max .. they could just knock the smile of Maragalli's face come the first race and be championship contender's too!! there's so much talent in world superbikes i don't think we'll have one rider dominate like Ben did .. but of course this is just my opinion

Huh!

LAst time I checked, JT qualified 2nd and finished 6th in his first GP. Mr Spies did not and he was in his 3rd or 4th GP.

We'll see how The Ben does in GP next year, I still say he's mid pack.

Massimo you dont know what you got yet boy ,when he has worked with JT for a while he will find out that there is no more commited rider anywhere .James will give it his all, as always ,so if your bike this season  has the edge as it did last season  you will have another Title .Massimo Will have to look it up but didnt James used to beat you in the european ss in 1998 WHEN HE WAS 18 ?.So dont hold a grudge mate. Good luck James
