Xaus' replacement rider, replaced

Training injury forces the former World Supersport rider to withdraw from Silverstone

SET to stand in for Ruben Xaus at Silverstone, Karl Muggeridge has been forced to withdraw following a training accident.

The Australian was on vacation with his family in northern Italy, when in training he crashed his mountain bike on Tuesday and sprained his right wrist. Muggeridge was fortunate not to sustain any fracturing, but the German HPR Honda team - who he is currently defending his German SBK title with - had no alternative to rest their rider and withdraw him from the substitution of Ruben Xaus on the Castrol Honda.

In short notice, Castrol Honda have been able to recruit Italian rider Fabrizio Lai to replace Muggeridge (and Xaus). Lai will be remembered from the 125 and 250GPs, the 32-year-old currently competes in the Italian Superbike championship.

Castrol Honda team manager, Ronald ten Kate said: “We’re all very sorry for Karl, as we were really looking forward to working with him again this weekend. However, we understand that he needs to be fit for the next IDM round to fight again for the title. So, we have a replacement for Ruben’s replacement, and we will make Fabrizio welcome and work hard with him to get the best result possible at Silverstone.”
