WSB 2013: Silverstone race results

Rea back to winning ways in second WSB round on British soil

The World Superbike Championship returned to Britain this weekend for the ninth round of the 2013 season. Unlike they had been at Donington, conditions turned out to be less than ideal, and some mixed results reflected the changeable track conditions.

In race one it was Pata Honda’s Jonathan Rea that took victory in a tricky contest. The race began in dry conditions, and it was the in-form Tom Sykes that looked to have the pace making his way past both Rea and then Laverty for the lead. Just five laps in spots of rain began to fall, however, and the uncertainty of some of the leading riders including Sykes and Laverty allowed Rea to push through for victory.

In the second contest it was Kawasaki rider Loris Baz that took his second ever WSB victory after winning at Silverstone one year ago. It was an action-packed race that saw the Fixi Crescent Suzuki riders Jules Cluzel and Leon Camier fighting for the win for the first time this year, as well as Chaz Davies who had had a mediocre result on his BMW in race one. Unfortunately for the Welshman, his fortunes ultimately didn’t improve as he suffered a mechanical failure three laps from the end. As the riders were vying for position late on the heavens opened and officials were forced to throw the red flag, and it was Baz who had the good fortune to be leading over the line on the previous lap.
