2011 WSB CHAMPION Carlos Checa bounced back to win the second race at Phillip Island after suffering a high speed crash in race one.
Recovering from the big race one crash, Checa commanded the second race on his Althea Ducati, quickly passing both Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea to hit the front early on.
Second place went to factory Aprilia's Max Biaggi, in what would be an impressive performance, as the Italian ran off the track at turn one after nearly colliding with the Kawasaki of Sykes.
The 2010 champion managed to remain upright, and after restarting in dead-last, fought his way through the pack to finish in second.
In third place was Sykes, taking his first dry weather Kawasaki podium after overhauling a slowing Rea in a breathtaking finish to the chequered flag.
Putting in a gritty ride, Leon Haslam finished in fifth aboard the factory BMW.
Biaggi leads the championship points ahead of Melandri, Sykes and Checa.
