BRITISH ACE Leon Haslam claimed his first World Superbike career pole position by topping the timesheets during Superpole at Phillip Island ahead of this weekend's WSB season opener.
Haslam, one of four Brits in the top 10, set a best time of 1min 31.229secs - two tenths off Phillip Island's lap record.
“I am absolutely delighted to get my first Superpole victory but the results in the races tomorrow are more important. Sitting in the garage watching the other guys go round in final Superpole and seeing their times falling was more nerve-racking than being out on the track and riding and it was a great relief when it was over."
Reigning World Supersport Champion Cal Crutchlow impressed on his first Yamaha YZF-R1; the Coventry-based rider secured the third fastest time during the shootout.
