Shinya Nakano announces his retirement from racing

SHINYA NAKANO has announced his retirement from racing, following his year with Aprilia in the 2009 World Superbike Championship.

The man who spent two years in 250cc GP and eight more years spanning the 500cc and MotoGP classes is off, leaving the door wide open for Leon Camier to take the Aprilia WSB ride - as touted by Visordown over a month ago.

But Nakano is not leaving the racing world behind, the 32-year-old says that he will be back in a different role in the near future.

He said: “I think it's time to stop and I have decided to retire. Thanks to everyone who has supported me during 13 years as a professional racer and eleven years in the world championships.

“Now, if my experience is a little help, I want to contribute to the motorcycle industry. I look forward to seeing everyone at the track in the near future, this time in a different capacity.”

OK, Shinya. Get the kettle on.

Sad news...a really entertaining and brave rider in his prime...he also had the coolest crash helmet design on the MotoGP/WSB circuit. Good luck whatever you do Shinya!!

Let's hope that Camier can do the factory ride justice if he does get it. The RSV4 does seem very small compared to the old RSV, so I hope that doesn't hinder him too much if he does take over from Shinya.
